POSITION: Dean of Middle School (200 Days) 

REPORTS TO: School Director

START DATE: July 2020

OPPORTUNITY: The Dean of Middle School assists the School Director with coordinating MTSS/RTI and supervising interventionist staff and  gifted education; serves as the testing coordinator; conducts teacher evaluations; and oversees school discipline. 



The Dean of Middle School is a member of the leadership team, and as such serves on the Emergency Response Team, and Student Support Team (SST).  The Dean of Middle School utilizes knowledge of human behavior, social, cultural and community influences to help create a positive learning climate. 


Major duties include:


  • Overseeing MTSS/RTI 


Supervises the Reading and Math interventionists to ensure the MTSS program is operated with fidelity and that SKTCS is in compliance with district and state requirements.


  • Coordinating Gifted Instruction


Identifies students who qualify for gifted testing, coordinate parent requests, tests students for gifted, creates contracts, manages nomination committee, provides pull-out when applicable,  and attends jury panel. 


  • Testing Coordinator


Complies with local and state training and preparation requirements in order to ensure teachers and students are prepared, accomodations and materials are provided,  and the test site is secure for benchmark and standardized testing. 


  • Teacher Evaluator


Assists School Director with teacher evaluations in the TKES platform


  • Create Positive School Climate


    1. Acts as a resource and provides professional development  for teachers in their instructional practice, especially as it relates to issues of discipline, relationships with students, classroom management, and school culture,

    2. Supervises In-School Suspension (ISS) through Restorative Justice Measures

    3. Serves as school leader in School Director’s absence


Other Duties:

  • Member of the Emergency Response Team

  • Member of the Student Support Team

  • Member of the Promotion and Retention Committee

  • School Director Surrogate as needed



  • Prior K-8 administration experience

  • K - 8 teaching experience

  • Experience with MTSS/RTI

  • Experience coaching and evaluating staff



  • Masters degree (or higher) in education or related area 

  • GA Principal certification (or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Superb oral and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of Conflict Resolution/Mediation strategies

  • Competent in Google Suite applications
