Meet our Staff
Dr. Juechter (Dr. J)
I have worked in a variety of capacities in the Savannah School System and private schools since 2008. I have a passion for working in schools and was also a member of the start-up team at Islands High School where I received the 2015 Instructional Support Person of the Year Award. I have a Bachelors of Science, Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix. I enjoy spending time with my husband and our 3 children. I also love to cook, spend time outdoors, and shop.
I enjoy getting to know the children and parents and supporting the school’s administrative and teaching teams so that they may focus on academic achievements.
Dean of Social Emotional Learning
I am so excited to join the Susie King Taylor family as the new Dean of Social and Emotional Learning. I am passionate about giving our students the support that they need, emotionally and academically, in order to have the best possible educational and life experiences.
I began my career as an elementary school counselor in Title 1 schools before returning to graduate school to pursue my doctorate in school psychology. My additional studies taught me how cognitive and social/emotional functioning work together to impact our students’ learning, behavior, and mental health. During my training I was fortunate to work in mental health clinics in children’s hospitals in both Los Angeles and Atlanta, primarily with children and families who had a history of trauma.
I chose to come back to work in public schools because I love the sense of community, and so that I can be more accessible to my students, their families, and teachers in order to be able to best support each of them. For the past 5 years I have been working as a school psychologist in the metro Atlanta area, but I chose to come to Savannah specifically to work at Susie King Taylor because I believe in their mission and share their desire to meet the needs of the whole child.
I look forward to working with the students, family, and staff in the upcoming school year and hopefully many years to come. As Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
Reading Coach/Academic RTI
My family and I moved to Georgia last year and we absolutely fell in love with Richmond Hill and everything Savannah has to offer. I married my highschool sweetheart and we have two amazing boys, Marz and Arian. I love watching them play football and baseball!
This is my 7th year in education. I graduated from Texas A&M - CC with my Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies. After graduating, I taught kindergarten through second grade. Before joining the SKTCS family, I was an English Language Arts and Social Studies Instructional Coach in Victoria, Texas. I have received my Master’s Degree from the University of Houston in Victoria in Educational Leadership. I am currently completing my doctoral degree and should graduate this Spring!
I am beyond excited to return to SKTCS as the new Reading Coach and RtI Coordinator! I can’t wait to see all the growth and accomplishments we will make this year! I am excited for the future of SKTCS. I chose Susie King Taylor Community School because of our commitment and mission to foster successful learners through a diverse learning environment.
Special Education (Grades K - 3)
I was born in California but was raised in Savannah since I was six years old after my Dad retired from the Air Force. My degree is in Health Science from Armstrong State University and for 19 years I worked as an Environmental Health Specialist for the Chatham County Health Department in Savannah, Georgia.
However, teaching children has always been a dream of mine and in February 2012 after being a substitute teacher with the Vidalia City School System, I was afforded the opportunity to bring my dream to fruition. I co-taught 4th grade inclusion for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year. In the summer of 2012 I was accepted into the Georgia Teacher Academy for Preparation and Pedagogy Program (GaTAPP) and completed the program in May 2013, while continuing to
co-teach in 4th grade. Since then I have taught pre-school, self-contained 3rd grade and K/1st grades special education classes, and 5th grade math, science, and social studies. I am so excited to be a part of the Susie King Taylor Community School.
I was blessed with the opportunity to transfer from a traditional public school to SKT in the middle of last school year. It was a much-needed change. It provided me with the opportunity to utilize the knowledge I gained from other educational experiences as well as learning quite a bit from the students and colleagues.
My daughter is currently attending SKTCS, and has been since it opened. She absolutely loves it and now I see why! It’s different, the focus is not only on education but also on building and nurturing the whole child, which I feel is very important. So, I’m glad to be returning for the 19-20 school year! My hope is that we continue to uphold the values and mission of SKTCS and keep doing awesome stuff!
