SKTCS Shines at Student Expo
This past Saturday, January 11, Susie King Taylor Community School participated in the Student Success Expo organized by the Savannah Chatham County Public School System.
Our school participants marched in the Parade of Schools. Dr. Chattin, Mrs. Q, and some of our school board members welcomed visitors to our school table. There families learned all about what SKTCS has to offer future students.
Also during the expo, teams representing schools throughout the Savannah Chatham County school district competed in several STEM related challenges. We are thrilled that two of our SKTCS teams took home 2nd Place Medals! Congratulations!!
Four of our first grade students represented SKTCS in the K-2 Grade Egg Drop Competition: Boston Yarboro, Jamerson Moore, Joshua Hugon, and Juliet Roach. They placed second overall. Go team!
Then four of our 5th grade students represented SKTCS in the 3-5 Grade Egg Drop Competition: Aeva Jones, Imani White, Dejah Sanders, and Adrian Spaulding. They took second place overall. Way to go!
For the Egg Drop Competitions, students had to construct protective containers for their eggs while staying within the size and volume restrictions specified. Then the containers were dropped from approximately 3 stories high. Our eggs survived!
We also had a first grade team compete in the grades K-2 Straw Tower Competition: Jace Stephens, Nile Wright, and Tilak Patel. Although they didn't place, they worked hard and showed excellent team work. During this competition, their team had to collaborate on which materials to use in order to build a tower that would stand as tall as possible without tipping over.
Thank you Mrs. Yarboro & Mrs. Murphy for helping our STEM Competitors practice and prepare!
Another wonderful highlight was the debut of our SKTCS Fencing team! Our 5th & 6th grade fencing team is under the leadership of Patty Wilkins from the Savannah Fencing Club, and includes the following students: Leah Simmons, Henry Traut, Samarra Mullis, Ayden Price, and Shayla Henderson.
