POSITION: Instructional Coach - Reading
REPORTS TO: School Director
START DATE: July 2020 (200 Days)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Reading Coach will support all K-6 staff in the implementation of Orton Gillingham, Fountas and Pinnell, Lucy
Calkins Units of Reading and Writing, and reading strategic interventions. The Coach will work directly with
teachers in the school providing classroom-based demonstrations, collaborative and one-on-one support, and
related professional development. The Coach will also work with administrators and teachers to collect, analyze,
and interpret data in order to guide instructional decisions.
Major duties include:
1. Academic Response To Intervention (RTI) Coordinator
a. Provide school-wide support to assist in the identification of students in need of reading RTI interventions,
b. Implementation of reading interventions and reading progress monitoring,
c. Coordination of Student Support Team meetings.
d. Coordinator of all academic RTI plans
2. Teacher Coach
Make regular visits to classrooms to observe teachers informally, provide feedback, and monitor progress.
Meet with teachers as scheduled to problem-solve issues related to reading as they may arise.
3. Vertical Alignment
Assure that the reading curriculum meets both Georgia standards and the innovation models of the school.
4. Professional Development
Seek and implement professional development opportunities for staff as related to the school’s annual improvement plan and the Five Year (Innovation) Plan.
5. Co-Testing Coordinator
Assist in the preparation of staff, students, and technology for formal district assessments. Assist in administering MAP/NWEA and GMAS tests.

● Previous department chair experience
● Experience in a K-12 environment
● Previous RTI coordinator experience
● Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction
● Master’s or Specialist degree as a Reading Specialist
● Master's Degree in Education Leadership
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Experience in Response to Intervention/ Multi-tiered Support Systems
● Experience with Fountas & Pinnell, Orton-Gillingham, and/or Lucy Calkins Units of Reading and Writing
● Knowledge of Place-based education
